SUPERSEDED: APM 110, Academic Appointee/Definition, dated 10/1/85. PURPOSE: Provides definitions of terms for uniformity and consistency in usage throughout the University. Most definitions derive from the APM, and the wording has been updated or clarified; terms not contained in the APM were reconstructed from policy files, correspondence, and other sources. 2. TRANSMITTED: APM 240, Deans and Provosts, pages 1-3, dated 8/22/96. SUPERSEDED: APM 240, pages 1-3, 11/18/85. PURPOSE: Permits Chancellor to appoint deans and provosts and to make acting appointments in these titles. Salary authority is established in the new Personnel Policies for Staff Members: Appendix II, Personnel Policies for Senior Managers. For acting deans and acting provosts, the Chancellor may approve academic-year or fiscal-year salaries up to the Regental compensation threshold (currently $150,000, to be indexed annually in accordance with the Consumer Price Index). Salaries at or greater than the compensation threshold continue to require Regental approval. The following policies reflect technical changes to appointment descriptions and remove references to compulsory retirement. The phrases "9-month" and "11-month" have been replaced with "academic- year" and "fiscal-year" as set out in APM 110, Academic Personnel Definitions. Additionally, references to compulsory retirement for faculty in APM Sections 200-21(a) and (b) and 220-24(d) have been deleted, as they are longer applicable. The effective date for these changes is July 1, 1996. Instructions for updating your department's manual are provided on the attached list from the Office of the President (APM Revision 18). 3.
