ACADEMIC PERSONNEL MANUAL Transmittal Notice 11/7/97

The following policies have been issued by the Office of the President. After inserting these sections in Volume 1 of your department's Academic Personnel Manual, please annotate any changes in the Table of Contents, then post this transmittal notice or route it to persons who should be aware of policy in these areas. If any pages are missing from this transmittal, contact Irene Fecht, Chancellor's Office (ilfecht@ucdavis.edu or 752-9745). Questions regarding policy or procedure may be directed to the Office of the Provost, 752-2070. Universitywide and UC Davis policies and procedures are also available electronically on the World Wide Web via: http://www.mrak.ucdavis.edu/web-mans/manuals.htm The following three sections have been revised, effective 9/16/97, to delete references to the faculty Acting Instructor title, which has been eliminated from the Corporate Title Code System. The title Acting Instructor has been used to denote a temporary member of the lowest rank of the Professor series. Because this title has not been in use for over ten years and campuses have indicated that the title will not be used for future faculty appointments, the eleven title codes associated with the title Acting Instructor have been eliminated (see attached list of the eliminated title codes). Title Code 2550 (Acting Instructor-Berkeley), created to accommodate appointment of graduate student Acting Instructors at UC Berkeley, will remain available for that purpose and may be extended to other campuses should the need arise; references in the APM to graduate student Acting Instructors have been retained. 1.
