ACADEMIC PERSONNEL MANUAL
Transmittal Notice

The following policies, effective January 1, 1998, have been
issued by the Office of the President.  The sections have been
revised to incorporate the Academic Salary Scale Notes, which
provide critical guidance on normal periods of service at rank
and step for the Professor Series and for the Supervisor of
Physical Education Series, and regarding off-scale salaries, into
the Academic Personnel Manual.

After inserting these sections in Volume 1 of your department's
Academic Personnel Manual, please annotate any changes in the
Table of Contents, then post this transmittal notice or route it
to persons who should be aware of policy in these areas.  If any
pages are missing from this transmittal, contact Irene Fecht,

regarding policy or procedure may be directed to the Office of
the Provost, 752-2070.

1.   TRANSMITTED:  Section 200, Appointment and Promotion/
     General, pages 1-2.

     SUPERSEDES:  Section 200, pages 1-2.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE pages
     1-2 only; RETAIN rest of section.)

     PURPOSE:  Revises paragraph 200-19-a.

2.   TRANSMITTED:  Section 220, Appointment and Promotion/
     Professor Series, pages 5-21.

     SUPERSEDES:  Section 220, pages 5-19.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE
     pages 5-19 only; RETAIN rest of section and Appendix A.)

     PURPOSE:  Revises paragraph 220-18.

3.   TRANSMITTED:  Section 300, Appointment and Promotion/
     Supervisor of Physical Education Series, pages 5-10.

     SUPERSEDES:  Section 300, pages 5-9.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE pages
     5-9 only; RETAIN rest of section.)

     PURPOSE:  Revises paragraph 300-18.

4.   TRANSMITTED:  Section 620, Off-Scale Salaries for
     Appointments and Advancements, pages 1-4.

     SUPERSEDES:  Section 620, pages 1-5.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

     PURPOSE:  Revises paragraphs 620-0-b, 620-16, 620-18,
     620-24, and 620-80.
