The following policies have been issued by the Office of the President. After inserting these sections in Volume 1 of your department's Academic Personnel Manual, please annotate any changes in the Table of Contents, then post this transmittal notice or route it to persons who should be aware of policy in these areas. The following policies are effective 4/20/98. Extensive changes were made to Policies 710 (Sick Leave), 730 (Vacation), and 760 (Childbearing Leave, Parental Leave, and Active-Service Modified Duties) to clarify wording, illustrate the relations of these leaves to applicable State and Federal law, and add new provisions. Provisions on the transfer of accrued sick leave and accrued vacation, the reinstatement of accrued sick leave, and usage of accrued vacation before the expiration of an appointment or expiration of a funding source have been added. In recognition of shared childrearing responsibilities, appointees with substantial responsibility to care for a child before and/or immediately following birth or placement may now request periods of Active Service-Modified Duties. Two charts have been added to provide information on the timing of childbearing leaves, childrearing leaves, and periods of Active Service-Modified Duties. New Policy 715 was developed to recognize commitment to and compliance with the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act and the California Family Rights Act. Related changes have been made to Policy 133 (Limitation on Total Period of Service with Certain Academic Titles) and Policy 700 (Leaves of Absence/General). 2.
