The following policies have been issued by the Office of the President. After inserting these sections in Volume 1 of your department's Academic Personnel Manual, please annotate any changes in the Table of Contents, then post this transmittal notice or route it to persons who should be aware of policy in these areas. TRANSMITTED: Section APM-710, Sick Leave, pages 1-5, (pages 2-3, rev. 7/29/99). SUPERSEDES: Section APM-710, pages 1-5 (4/20/98). (DISCARD/RECYCLE.) PURPOSE: Revises APM-710-20-a to clarify that appointees may use accrued sick leave for medical appointments of, illness of, or bereavement for their domestic partners and relatives of their domestic partners who would be covered if the domestic partner were the appointee's spouse; revises APM-710-20-b to clarify that appointees may substitute accrued sick leave for unpaid family and medical leave to which appointees are entitled under State or Federal law. 2. TRANSMITTED: Section APM-715, Family and Medical Leave, pages 1-5 (page 1, rev. 7/29/99). SUPERSEDES: Section APM-715, pages 1-5 (4/20/98). (DISCARD/RECYCLE.) PURPOSE: Revises Section APM-715-0 to clarify that appointees may be eligible under University policy to take other types of leave, in lieu of using family and medical leave, to care for other family members, including domestic partners, and others residing in the appointee's household. 3. TRANSMITTED: Section APM-760, Childbearing Leave, Parental Leave, and Active Service-Modified Duties, pages 1-8 (pages 1, 5, 7, rev. 7/29/99). SUPERSEDES: Section APM-760, pages 1-8 (4/20/98). (DISCARD/RECYCLE. RETAIN Charts I and II, 4/20/98.) PURPOSE: Revises Sections APM-760-0, APM-760-27-a, and APM-760-28-a to clarify that appointees are eligible to use parental leave or assume Active Service-Modified Duties to care for children of their domestic partners on the same bases as appointees with spouses; specifies in APM-760-28-a that the eligibility period for Active Service-Modified Duties shall normally extend from 3 months prior to 12 months following the birth or placement of a young child and shall be concluded within 12 months following the birth or placement, and that in cases other than the quarter (semester) when a faculty member is on childbearing leave, modified duties may be either partial or full relief from teaching. 4. TRANSMITTED: Section APM-520, Employment of Near Relatives, pages 1-2 (page 1, rev. 7/29/99). SUPERSEDES: Section APM-520, pages 1 (7/1/71) and 2 (6/3/85). (DISCARD/RECYCLE. RETAIN Appendix A, 1/24/72.) PURPOSE: Revises Sections APM-520-0 and APM-520-4 to clarify that, under specified conditions, the employment of near relatives, including appointees' domestic partners and specified relatives and in-laws of their domestic partners, in the same department is permitted (these policies also apply to persons residing in an appointee's household); makes technical changes to conform with the changes made to leave policies cited above.
