ACADEMIC PERSONNEL MANUAL HOLDERS:

The attached materials should be inserted in the "Campus Procedures" binder of
your department's Academic Personnel Manual.  These sections have been
approved by the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor.  After inserting these
sections in your manual, please post this transmittal notice or route it to
persons who should be aware of policy in these areas.

     PURPOSE:  Updates consistent with annual call; reflects changes in
     position titles and unit names; updates procedures; requires

     (Exhibit A), adds step for soliciting evaluation from Dean--Graduate
     Studies for candidate who is a graduate group chair; clarifies the term

     PURPOSE:  New section; sets forth UC Davis implementation of UC policy
     Section APM-280, consistent with annual call guidelines.

10.  DELETE from your manual:  Section UCD-II-D, Appointment and Review of
     Other Academic Program Leaders, 7/26/84.

     PURPOSE:  Obsolete section.  These positions are supplemental to the
     regular appointment of the academic employee filling the administrative
     post and are working titles only.  Appropriate procedures and criteria
     are established by the Chancellor, Provost, or Vice Provost.
