The attached UCD Policy & Procedure Manual sections have been approved by the appropriate vice chancellor and by the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor. After inserting these sections in your manual, please annotate the Table of Contents to reflect the changes, then post or circulate this transmittal notice so employees will be aware of these policies. PURPOSE: New section; defines policy (adopted July 1, 1996) for formal review of administrative units in order to assess overall performance in support of the University's mission of teaching, research, and public service. 3. TRANSMITTED: Section 210-74, Ownership and use of Computer Software, 8/19/99. SUPERSEDES: Section 210-74, 10/5/89.(DISCARD/RECYCLE.) PURPOSE: Requires departments to remove commercial software from computer hardware prior to its disposal, unless allowed by terms of the license agreement; clarifies that shareware is not public domain software and that departments must comply with terms of the license agreement and copyright; updates unit names; updates references. 4. TRANSMITTED: Section 310-16, Electronic Mail, and Exhibits A and B, 9/24/99. PURPOSE: New section; provides UC Davis implementing guidelines for, and is supplemental to, the UC Electronic Mail Policy. This section applies to all email services operated by UCD units and to all users of UCD email services, including anyone who has an email account in the domain ucdavis.edu, in its subdomains, or on any computers connected to the UCD network. 5. TRANSMITTED: Section 350-29, Nonstandard Furnishings, 8/24/99. SUPERSEDES: Section 350-29, 6/25/93. (DISCARD/RECYCLE.) PURPOSE: Requires proposed acquisitions of nonstandard furniture to be reviewed by Environmental Health & Safety for ergonomic considerations; includes DaFIS in procedures; updates position titles; updates references; minor editorial revisions for clarity. 6. TRANSMITTED: Section 380-06, Employment Eligibility Verification, and Exhibit A, 10/4/99. SUPERSEDES: Section 380-06, Employment Eligibility Authorization, and Exhibit A, 6/24/94. (DISCARD/RECYCLE.) PURPOSE: General simplification and streamlining of complex language; changes title; updates unit names; changes time from 21 days to 90 days to present documentation if application receipt has been used in lieu of lost, stolen, or damaged document; removes provisions explaining how the law was phased in (in 1986); updates references to new payroll/ personnel system; describes provisions on extensions when verification documents expire, including special provisions for temporary workers and Canadians; changes source for Form I-9 from Storehouse to Fulfillment House (contracted vendor); adds legal citations to references; modifies list of acceptable verification documents (Exhibit A).
