I. General

Some employees must have initial or recurring medical examinations as part of their job. This requirement must be listed in vacancy listings and position descriptions under "Conditions of Employment."

II. Preplacement Examinations

A medical examination is required for the following job titles.

UC Davis Health System

All positions

Davis Campus Departments

Building Maintenance Worker titles
Custodian
Custodian, Senior
Fire Captain
Fire Chief, Assistant
Fire Fighter
Fire Specialist
Grounds Equipment Operator
Groundskeeper
Laborer
Physical Plant Mechanic
Physical Plant Mechanic, Senior
Police Dispatcher
Police Officer (must also have preplacement psychological exam)

III. Health Care Workers

Health care workers must be examined for infectious disease in the first week on the job.

IV. Medical Monitoring

Workers who wear a respirator or work with animals, significant biological agents, hazardous materials, or high noise levels may be required to take part in a medical monitoring program.

V. Commercial Drivers

Certain commercial drivers are required to have a medical examination every 2 years. They are also required to be tested for drugs and alcohol as described in UCD Policy & Procedure Manual Section 380-22.
