Transmittal Notice

The following policies have been issued by the Office of the President.  After
inserting these sections in your department's manual, please annotate the
Table of Contents to reflect the changes, then post or circulate this
transmittal notice so employees will be aware of policy in these areas.

1.  TRANSMITTED:  Policy 12, Nondiscrimination in Employment, 8/1/99.

    SUPERSEDES:  Policy 12, 7/1/96.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

    PURPOSE:  Incorporates changes made to UC Nondiscrimination and
    Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic and Staff Employment, issued
    4/1/99, which includes adding "genetic characteristics" as a basis for
    nondiscrimination with regard to medical condition, and adding a new
    group of veterans covered by nondiscrimination requirements.

2.  TRANSMITTED:  Policy 14, Affirmative Action, 8/1/99.

    SUPERSEDES:  Policy 14, 7/1/96.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

    PURPOSE: Incorporates changes made to UC Nondiscrimination and
    Affirmative Action Policy Regarding Academic and Staff Employment, issued
    4/1/99, which includes adding a new group of veterans covered by
    affirmative action requirements.

3.  TRANSMITTED:  Policy 46, Administrative Leave, 8/1/99.

    SUPERSEDES:  Policy 46, 3/14/97.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

    PURPOSE:  Clarifies and simplifies administration of the policy; grants
    paid leave when exempt employees in career positions are subpoenaed to
    serve as witnesses in non-University proceedings.

4.  TRANSMITTED:  Policy 51, Reduced Fee Enrollment, 8/1/99.

    SUPERSEDES:  Policy 51, 7/1/96.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

    PURPOSE:  Clarifies that fee reduction applies only if the employee's
    enrollment in UC courses does not exceed three courses or nine units,
    whichever limit provides the greatest benefit to the employee.

5.  TRANSMITTED:  Policy 60, Layoff and Reduction in Time from Professional
    and Support Staff Positions, 8/1/99.

    SUPERSEDES:  Policy 60, 7/1/96.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

    PURPOSE:  Revises trial employment provision to provide written
    notification to the employee when trial employment is required.

6.  TRANSMITTED:  Policy 81, Reasonable Accommodation, 8/1/99.

    SUPERSEDES:  Policy 81, 3/14/97.  (DISCARD/RECYCLE.)

    PURPOSE:  Clarifies that the University provides reasonable accommodation
    to otherwise qualified employees with an existing disability at the time
    of hire.
